Archive for May, 2011

It has been awhile since I’ve blogged. Life has been getting in the way and the last few weeks have been a roller coaster—teething baby, me with an ear infection, major computer system meltdown, launch of a website for a client, and the arrival of my second book from the publisher. With life being so hectic I’ve made it a point to have coffee with Bryan every morning that he is working close to home. It’s our quiet time together and something I’ve come to really appreciate.

This morning, while having that first cup of coffee, I was watching Canada AM. The author of The Book of Awesome, Neil Pasricha, was being interviewed about his second book, The Book of (Even More) Awesome. I haven’t read either book but I was intrigued. In his interview he mentioned some things that were awesome… like a dog coming up for a scratch behind the ears when the owner has had a bad day. This inspired me to write today’s blog post about the simple little things I think are awesome…

  • Hugs from Tobias
  • Seeing the bees hovering around the flowers in the garden
  • The way the morning light filters in through the century old glass in our bay window
  • Bringing Kaia into bed with me in the morning
  • The laughter of children
  • Bryan and our morning conversations
  • Sunrises
  • The way my Mom always seems to know if I need her
  • Coffee with cream
  • Singing in the shower
  • The way I feel after a tough workout
  • Finishing something that someone said I could never do
  • Seeing the books I’ve written, in print, for the very first time
  • Camping in the wilderness
  • The sound the water makes when my canoe paddle glides through it
  • Hitchhiking dragonflies
  • The way my cheeks feel in the mist or after a good rain
  • How Thomson (our dog) snuggles in when it’s really cold
  • That baby smell (not the diaper – lol)
  • The sound of a lawnmower on a Sunday afternoon
  • Coloring
  • Swimming naked in the wilderness
  • Smoked paprika
  • Laughing so hard that I start to cry and can’t stop the giggles
  • Saying good morning to a stranger and making them smile
  • Paying it forward
  • Cranking the tunes and singing out loud (off tune, of course)
  • Bubble baths
  • Watching a child clap and dance their favorite song
  • Handmade cards from Tobias
  • The faces of my children on Christmas morning
  • The tenacity of a spider
  • Bryan actually loving a vegetarian meal
  • The smell of lilacs

I could go on, but this gives you the idea. Perhaps I’ll post more of these awesome things as time goes on. In the meantime, you might want to check out Neil’s website at http://1000awesomethings.com
