I’m an avid backpacker, canoeist, wilderness cookbook author and the mother of an 11 year old boy, Tobias, who is my toughest critic when it comes to food. In June 2010 we welcomed another child into our family — a daughter named Kaia. She’s your typical precocious and very busy toddler. I’ve been married to my husband, Bryan, for 19 years.
I love to cook and to experiment with recipes, new ingredients and techniques. I also love the challenge of cooking in the wilderness. I’ve even been known to make baked brie in pastry on a backpacking trip, so one could safely say I am obsessed with playing in the kitchen. I prefer to look at it as my passion. I often get teased about how tiny my kitchen is. It just goes to show that you don’t need a fancy kitchen to create amazing food.
In 2011 I finished writing my second cookbook which is full of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free fare for backpackers and paddlers. It was released in June 2011. I’m awaiting news of a possible third cookbook deal, so wish me luck.
I am the owner and editor of www.outdooradventurecanada.com and www.wildernesscooking.com.
Bryan, Tobias, and I ran our first 5k charity race in April 2012. It’s fun to run together as a family.
In the rest of my spare time I like to take pictures, write poetry, do needlework, read, knit, watch Food Network Canada, collect antique tea cups, draw, garden, and most of all hang out with my family.
